160 pages; Near Fine condition. Ever so soft front hinge crease. No spine creases. Tiny bit of shelf rub to cover edges. Solid, clean. An excellent gift! The portrait on the cover was done by Karsh in 1955. I, on instinct removed the cigar. At this, the Churchillian scowl deepened, the head was thrust forward belligerently and the hand placed on the hip in an attitude of anger. So he stands in my portrait in what has always seemed to me the image of England in those years, defiant and unconquerable. The fronticepiece is also by Karsh taken in 1941. The Coat-of-Arms on the back of the book is that of the book of the family of the Duke of Marlborough (Spencer-Churc hill) . Sir Winston was a cousin of the present Duke of Marlborough. The Motto on the bottom reads Faithful though unfortunate.
